Moses
A Levite who was raised in the house of the Egyptian Pharaoh. God called him to deliver the Israelites from Egypt. Moses confronted the Pharaoh, inflicted ten plagues on the Egyptians, led the Israelites through the Red Sea, received the Law from God on Mount Sinai, and led the people through forty years of desert pilgrimage until they stood on the threshold of the land of Canaan. As Abraham was recognized as the father of the nation, Moses was revered as its deliverer from bond-age and as the Law-giver. He was buried in the land of Moab, never having entered the Promised Land himself. |
