Holy Spirit
(often translated "Holy Ghost") One of the Persons of the Triune God, whose activity in the world gives life, reveals truth, restrains evil, and empowers and equips for service. The Holy Spirit was instrumental in the conception of Jesus and descended on him at his baptism. Jesus promised that he would send the Holy Spirit, whom he called "the Comforter," to aid the disciples in their witness and to bring all he said to mind. He commissioned his disciples to baptize people in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. |
