Is the father of the Hebrew nation. He was raised in Ur in Lower Mesopotamia and, at the call of God, moved with his family to the land of Canaan. After a period in Egypt, he settled near Hebron, where God promised that his descendants would become a numerous nation though as yet he had no son. When Abraham was about one hundred years old, his aged wife Sarah bore a son, Isaac. Abraham was buried in the "Cave of Machpelah" near Hebron.
