These sequences were shot in the Wilderness of Judea on the barren terraces of marl that rise above the dead sea and the River Jordan. Though the location of the mountaintop to which Jesus is taken by the devil is not specified, the scenes have been recreated as accurately as possible. A facsimile of the pinnacle of the temple was created based on the model of Herod's Temple located in the Holyland Hotel in Jerusalem. The actual model was also filmed for the wider shots of this scene.
