Jesus at Nazareth
These scenes of Jesus in Nazareth were filmed in a series of small Galilean towns. Galilee is a fertile land, well utilized by farmers and vineyard keepers. The synagogue Jesus entered was recreated based on research of houses of worship during this period. Every synagogue was built so that the worshippers faced Jerusalem. The interior was simple and well lit. The Torah was kept in a movable ark. Women were separated from men during services, often in a second floor balcony. But the set designers for JESUS created an alternate style, a one story synagogue with the women's section at the rear of the main floor. |
