Satan Satan and the Devil are his two most common names. However, he is also called the Dragon, the Evil One, the Angel of the Bottomless Pit, the Prince of this World, the Prince of the Power of the Air, the God of this World, Apollyon, Abaddon, Belial, and Beelzebub. He is mentioned first in the book of Job in the Old Testament. (Job 1:6-12; 2:1) He is also mentioned as a personality in Zechariah 3:1. In the New Testament, Satan is considered the head of a plurality of evil spirits (Matthew 8:28; 9:34; 12:26, 27; Luke 11:19). He is declared as a murderer (John 8:44), the enemy and falsifier of God's Word (Matthew 13:19, 39), the one who put treason into the heart of Judas (John 13:27, compare 6:70; Luke 22:53), and the prince of this world already judged by Christ (Luke 10:18).
