Bartholomew (disciple) First mention: Matthew 10:3 Final mention: Acts 1:13 Meaning of his name: "Gift of God" Frequency of his name: Referred to 10 times Biblical books mentioning him: Five books (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts) Occupation: Apostle Place of birth: Probably Bethsaida Important fact about his life: Phillip witnessed to him under a fig tree and brought him to Christ. Copyright 1999, used by permission from Dr. H.L. Willmington One of the twelve apostles; generally supposed to have been the same as Nathanael. In the synoptic gospels Philip and Bartholomew are always mentioned together, while Nathanael is never mentioned; in the fourth gospel, on the other hand, Philip and Nathanael are similarly mentioned together but nothing is said of Bartholomew. He was one of the disciples to whom our Lord appeared at the Sea of Tiberias after His resurrection. He was also a witness of the Ascension. He was an "Israelite indeed." Bartholomew is said to have preached the gospel in India (Arabia Felix) and according to some, in Armenia.
